Me name is Mick McGuire and I'll quickly tell to you
Of a girl that I admired she was Katie Donahue,
She was fair an' fat an' fourty, and believe me when I say,
Whenever I came in at the door can hear her mummy say :
"Johnny get up from the fire, get up, and give the man a sate,
Can't you see it's Mick McGuire and he's courtin' your sister Kate.
You know very well he owns a farm a wee bit out of a town,
And get up of that, you impudent brat, let mr. McGuire sit down".

Well the first time I met her was at dance at Termagee,
I very kindly asked her if she'd dance a step with me.
I asked if I could see her home if she'd be goin' me way,
But whenever I came in at the door can hear the old woman say :
"Johnny get up from the fire, get up, and give the man a sate,
Can't you see it's Mick McGuire and he's courtin' your sister Kate.
You know very well he owns a farm a wee bit out of a town,
And get up of that, you impudent brat, let mr. McGuire sit down".

And but now that we are married, her mother changed her mind,
Because I spent the money that me daddy left behind.
Now I got a bid of decadency get me time of day,
And whenever I came in at the door can hear her mummy say :
"Johnny, come up to fire, come up, you're sittin' in the draft,
Can't you see it's old McGuire, ah, he nearly drives me daft.
Oh, you know very well he owns a farm a wee bit out of a town,
So sit where you are and never you dare give old McGuire the chair".
